Having lived in and around Robin Hood's Bay, business owner Matthew Pugh had a real passion for the local heritage and dreamed of opening a lifestyle store selling lovely products with associations to days of old and educating visitors on our much loved coastline history.
In 2016, the small shop half way down the steep bank in Robin Hood's Bay came up for rent for the first time in twenty two years and with £500 cash in his pocket, Matthew decided to take a giant leap from the corporate world.
Naming the business after his cat, 'Berties Of Bay' was born offering a whole host of fab items full of uniqueness.
Working hard to create and launch own branded products and with Matthew's background working in garment manufacture and design, Berties Of Bay has quickly evolved. Four years on, the shop has re-located into a much larger store in the heart of the village, where customers can peruse the fab products and try on heritage clothing, whilst enjoying tea, coffee and even a slice of cake.
Matthew says, "we want everyone to come and visit us as customers and return year after year as friends".
