Traditional, seamless, Robin Hood’s Bay Fisherman’s Gansey jumper, knitted in 100% British oiled wool.
 
Derived from the traditional Robin Hood’s Bay knitting pattern, sailors and fishermen wore Ganseys to keep them warm. The pattern was unique to the village that they came from, so when lost at sea or after drinking too many shandies, they could be identified and returned home to their loved ones.

Please note:- as this Gansey pattern is knitted using only vertical motifs, this provides a lot of stretch across the width and follows the contours of your figure. The sleeves are knitted slightly shorter than a regular jumper as fishermen didn’t want hooks getting snagged in the cuffs, hauling them overboard. Underneath the armpits are gussets, which allow free movement when working.
 
This Gansey provides a regular fit and suits most body shapes as the pattern is vertical so like a rib it follows the body shape contours with lots of give / stretch across the width. Works well on most body shapes unless the intended wearer is very tall and thin in which we would recommend the Whitby Gansey to be a slightly better choice.

This garment is designed not to be washed due to the oiled content in the wool, which helps repel rainwater in light showers. If an emergency occurs spot clean the affected area by hand, then lay on flat surface to dry.
